Mary Marcella Cottier

PINE RIDGE - Mary Marcella Cottier, 82, made her journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.

Mary Marcella Cottier was born on March 31, 1934 in Pine Ridge to Dave Flying Hawk and Cecelia Kills Enemy.

Mary is survived by her children, Rose Marie Cottier, Kathryn Cottier, Alberta (Dale) Richard, and Bert Cottier Jr. all of Pine Ridge and Loretta (Craig) Courtney of Grand Rivers, Ky.; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dave Flying Hawk and Cecelia Kills Enemy; spouse, Bert Roy Cottier Sr; son, Gerald L. Smith-Cottier; daughter; Theresa Marie Cottier; brothers, David Flying Hawk Jr., Clare Flying Hawk, and Robert Michael Flying Hawk; and sisters, Kathrine Richards, Madeline Boerschig, Prudy Flying Hawk, Verna Flying Hawk, and Geraldine Means.

A one night wake service was held Feb. 8 at St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall in Manderson. Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 9, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall, with Father Christopher Johnson, S.J., Fr. Edmund Yainao and Ms. Joyce Tibbitts officiating. Traditional Lakota services held by Mr. Eric Cross. Burial services were held Feb. 8, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
