Stacey ‘Sonny’ Reed Jr.

OGLALA - Stacey “Sonny” Reed, Jr., 76, made his journey to the Spirit World Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge. Stacey lost his courageous 4 year fight against cancer.

Stacey “Sonny” was born on June 19, 1940 in Fort Duchesne, Utah to Stacy Reed Sr. and Elsie May (Denver) Reed.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vivian Reed of Oglala; sisters, Mary (Mike) Homma of Texas, Bea Harper of N.M., Pauline Reed of Ariz., and Inga (Sam Hollenkemp of Ky.; brother, Wayne Reed of Utah; daughters, Deb Red Star and Ellen Fills Pipe of Oglala and Edwina (Nick) Gibbons of Chadron, Neb.; sons, Rod Red Starr of Elko, Nev. and Lance Fills Pipe of Oglala; twelve grandchildren, Sandra, Paulina (Marlon), Veronica, Rushell, Kayla & Russ, Jr. Fast Wolf, Gabriella, Braedon, Bella, & Tano Fills Pipe; Ilyanna and Edwin Fills Pipe; great granddaughter, Suraya Kelly; great grandson, Noah Fills Pipe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Stacey Sr. and Elsie Reed; son, Stacey “Duke” Reed III; daughter, Sandra Reed; and numerous beloved brothers and sisters.

A one night wake service was held May 12 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala. Funeral services was held May 14 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church, with Sister Barb Bogenschutz officiating. Traditional Lakota services was held by Mr. Ivis Long Visitor. Burial services was held at Fills the Pipe-Reed Family Cemetery in Lakeside, Oglala.
