Jarryn La’Shae Agneaux

EAGLE BUTTE –– Jarryn La’Shae Agneaux, 18, made her journey to the Spirit World on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the HIS Hospital in Eagle Butte, surrounded by her family.

Jarryn La’Shae Agneaux was born on January 2, 1999 to Ramona Carole Dupris and Quentin James (Casey) Agneaux. She weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces. She came into this world welcomed by her aunties Doreen and Kracy Dog Eagle who witnessed her birth.

Jarryn was raised by her grandmother, Shirley Dupris Dog Eagle, while her mom was on active military duty until her Auntie Kracy took her and her sister Jessica to Kansas to live with cousins Dot and Bubba. She then moved with her mom and her sister Jessica to Colorado and from there to North Carolina. When she returned to Eagle Butte, she lived with her grandmother, Shirley, once again.

Growing up, Jarryn (known to her family as Jeri) loved Scooby-Doo. She had a pair of pajamas with Scooby Doo on them that she wore until the feet had to be cut off because the pajamas were too short. Jeri was a very quiet little girl, but she always had a way of making her presence known.

On April 16, 2016, she and Foster Cournoyer-Hogan officially became a couple. She and Foster met at a track meet when both were participating for their respective schools.

Her first job, in the summer of 2016, was at the fitness center as an aide. In May of this year, she started her second job at the Eagle Stop where she worked briefly as part of a program offered to teens by Four Bands Community Fund.

She attended the Gear-Up program at SD School of Mines in Rapid City for the two summers after her freshman and sophomore years in high school. She attended and graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School where she participated in cross country, basketball, volleyball, and track. She loved sports and she was a fast runner. She was chosen to attend the Close-Up program in Washington, in April 2017 because of an essay she wrote. She enjoyed the trip with her cousin, Alberta “Pretty Bird” Miner.

Jeri loved being an auntie to her sister Storme’s little girls, Lillian and Sakoiya. She spent time with them whenever she could. She sure enjoyed spending time with her friends, too. She was shy and timid, but when she warmed up, she could be one of the loudest ones. She enjoyed traveling. She flew to California with her Grandma Carol to attend her Auntie Melissa Dupris’ wedding. It was her first time flying and seeing the ocean. When she flew to Washington, she was excited because she “did it before.”

Jeri is survived by her grandmother, Shirley Dog Eagle; mother, Ramona Dupris; father, Quentin Agneaux; sisters: Jessica Mae Agneaux, Storme Danielle Agneaux, and Shai’Don Aiden Dupris; half-siblings: Jade, Gavin, Kaylee, and Kayson; cousin-sister, Ty'Leigha "Dot" Takes the Knife (Colton Olson); aunties: Doreen (LeRay) Dog Eagle, Kracy Dog Eagle, and Samantha (Art) Dog Eagle, Arlene (Jake) Agneaux, Marilyn (Danny) Salter, and Denaye (Devin) Davis; uncles: Cody (Carmen) and Efton (Shannon) Dog Eagle; grandmothers: Valerie Curley, Carol Mann, Julie Dupris, Marcy Miner, Nadine Fisherman, Grace Larrabee, and Deloris Bagola; lalas: Danny Curley, Ethan Dupris, Sylven Rae Dupris, and Dale (Arliss) Bagola; cousins: Ty’Leigha, Isaiah, Keagan, Braylee, Sylvan, Ran’Dunn, Justen, Tuff, Charlie, Cashlyn, Rustee, and Paisley; and her special friend, Foster Cournoyer-Hogan.

Her lalas, Richard “Chuck” Dog Eagle and Gilbert Agneaux; uncle, Sylvan Ethan Dupris; and auntie, Cherie Agneaux preceded her in death.

A one night wake service started on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church, with Mother Mikayla Dunfee presiding. Burial followed at the Dog Eagle Family Cemetery in Bear Creek.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Jarryn’s arrangements. (www.familyfuneralhome.net)
