A bit of the boardwalk in the 605.

Want to add a bit of the tropic’s to your day? Tropical Smoothie Café has you covered. Grouchy has diven by both locations over the years but never stopped in, since it was close to 100 degrees on Friday, Grouchy felt like a cold one, smoothie that is. Rapid City has two locations, one on Omaha Street, and one at Rushmore Crossing. You can dine in, take out, or use door dash.

Tropical Smoothie Café started out as a smoothie shop in 1993 along the panhandle of Florida, whipping up ice cold creamy smoothies. It was not until 1999 that they introduced food items to the menu. Flash forward to 2022 and there are now over 1,100 locations nationwide. By 2024 their goal is to have over 2,000 franchises, they are well on their way.

Serving up Flatbreads, Wraps, Sandwiches, Salads, Quesadillas, and breakfast, with a kids menu as well. Hungry for breakfast, try Elvis favorite Peanut Butter Banana Crunch Flatbread—bet if Elvis was still here this would be his go-to sandwich. How about the Southwest Wrap: eggs, grilled chicken, pepper jack, tomatoes, spinach with a chipotle mayo. Or a grilled cheese, and not just your ordinary grilled cheese, but an Avocado grilled cheese, with white American cheese, firehouse cheese blend, bacon, smoked tomato spread and smashed Avocado on a toasted sourdough.

Grouchy ordered the Chipotle Chicken Club, grilled chicken bacon, tomatoes, romaine, pepper jack cheese with chipotle mayo, on a toasted flatbread, with choice of side, and you can add a large smoothie for an extra $4.49 to make it a full meal. Grouchy had the jalapeno corn and the Pomegranate Plunge: pomegranate, banana, cranberry, and strawberries. My total was $15.16

Tropical Smoothie did a nice job in the décor, they make it feel beachy, like you were on the boardwalk, not that I have ever been on the boardwalk, but it felt like I was. Bright white walls, an open kitchen concept, vibrant color seating, and tropical artwork. Tropical Smoothie was very clean, so clean one would have thought it had just opened, that is a very good sign. My food only took a few minutes, the flatbread was very good, had a bit of a kick between the mayo and pepper jack cheese. The jalapeno corn was not bad, not my favorite but between the sandwich and smoothie that made up for the ok corn.

I am not a banana fan and I almost left it out, and kind of wished I did, since it had a strong banana flavor, but that being said it was good, hit the spot: nice, creamy, and cold, even with the banana. You can get the super veggies, like the Island Green, Spinach, Kale, Mango, Pineapple and Banana (this is their # 1 seller). Balanced Fusions, Tropical treats, like the Mocha Madness, chocolate, coffee, cappuccino and non-fat yogurt are also available. You can add a supplement or fresh add-in to any drink, to name a few: multivitamin, chia seeds, pea protein, vitamin B12 and so many more.

Over all they did take me to a tropical island, and I enjoyed the food and drink, even the banana. Tropical Smoothie has a well-deserved 5 star rating. Over the next few weeks when the temp is at 100 degrees,  stop in and grab a cold one and a bit to eat.

Until next week, stay cool and good eats.
