The “Great Race” Exhibit at the Journey Museum
RAPID CITY –– A reception for the third in a series of eight vignettes that recount the Great Race Narrative from James LaPointe’s book, “Legends of the Lakota” will be April 1, 2016, 5-8 p.m., Journey Museum. Featured will be 3-Dimension, Bad Art Press, musician, Sissy Good- House, painter Renelle White Buffalo, poet, Annerika White Bird. Host for the event will be the Heritage Center, Red Cloud School.

Lakota Language Weekend at Hilton Garden Inn
RAPID CITY –– Iyapi Kin Gluha Mani Po. The Lakota Language Consortium invites everyone to help “carry the language forward” by attending the Lakota Language Weekend in Rapid City, on April 2-3 at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Morning classes run from 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and afternoon classes from 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day. Registration opens at 8 a.m. $20 nonrefundable registration fee.

DOWNTOWN RAPID CITY –– The sixth annual Uptown Downtown, a fundraising auction and dinner hosted by Destination Rapid City, Main Street Square and the YMCA of Rapid City, is set for Saturday, Apr. 2 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn – Rushmore Plaza.
The event will benefit Downtown Rapid City, Main Street Square and the YMCA of Raid City’s Sponsorship Program. Black Hills Insurance Agency and US Bank are the sponsors of the 2016 Uptown Downtown.
The event is $60 per person, $450 per 8-person table, or $520 per 10-person table. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn – Rushmore Plaza for $69 per room. Hope and Healing After Suicide Conference
CEDAR SHORE –– The Hope and Healing After Suicide Conference is a one day event for adult survivors of a loss to suicide and will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Cedar Shore Resort near Chamberlain.
The conference will begin at 9:00 a.m. CST and conclude at 4:00 p.m. CST. Preregistration is required. Included in the $15.00 registration fee are all conference speaker sessions, lunch, and a copy of Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s book, The Wilderness of Suicide Grief: Finding Your Way.

Seeking artists to help beautify downtown Rapid City
RAPID CITY –– Destination Rapid City, along with the Rapid City Arts Council, is pleased to announce that we are seeking submissions for original artwork for a downtown Rapid City beautification project. In partnership with Clean Slate Group, we are wrapping unsightly utility boxes in high-performance and graffiti-resistant vinyl printed with local, original artwork. Artists will have an opportunity to see their original work displayed publicly in Rapid City.
Artists should be living in South Dakota within a 75- mile radius of Rapid City. Artists whose work is selected will be given a stipend. This project is open to all ages. There is no fee to enter. To view examples of this project, visit cleanslategroup.org.
