Checking out a new joint at the Crossing

Rapid City has more and more choices for new eating establishments. Grouchy decided to try the Native Grill and Wings at 1756 Eglin St. on the west end of the Rushmore Crossings. Everything is new in this shopping center. The Native Grill had tv’s all over; they even had a large screen tv on the covered porch to the side. Ok, it was covered with plastic, probably ready for the summer months when its way warmer. 

In 1978, the family … Floyd and Judy Anderson packed their four daughters into a car in Buffalo, New York and set off for Arizona to follow their dream of owning and running a restaurant. They bought a small local pizza joint, renamed it “Native New Yorker”, and threw their life savings into building a successful business. It wasn’t that easy. Then they added wings to the menu and everything started to come together. Recently named on Restaurant Business Magazine’s Future 50, Native has become known as a polished sports grill that proudly offers 19 wing flavors. 

The newest addition to the Native family, the Special Events Food Truck, can be spotted anywhere from soccer tournaments, to food festivals, to private parties. Native Grill & Wings is now on the go!

Grouchy and guest started off with the help of Jaden, our wonderful server to help us pick the Buffalo Ranch Twisters, crispy beer-battered potato twists coated with their buffalo ranch dry rub. Served with ketchup and white queso dip for $5.99. Since Grouchy has been watching salt intake, these twisters were a little salty but hot and fresh, can’t resist.  Nice variety of Appetizers starting with Beer battered zucchini, Buffalo Chicken Dip, loaded Fries, loaded Tots Buffalo Chicken Nachos. 

Grouchy’s guest ordered the Beef of Kummelweck – Roast beef piled high on our homemade Kummelweck roll served with Horseradish and au jus for $9.99. when guest looked at the beef piled high on the bun, the meat looked dry but it was really tender. Looks are deceiving. The guest let Grouchy try a bite and the Au jus was on the salty side. And yes the guest will order this again. 

Grouchy wanted wings but never ordered them, but ended up with the California Burger with pepper jack cheese, avocado, red onion, tomato and lettuce for $10.29 with their signature seasoned fries but for extra, Grouchy ordered onion rings. Well, the onion rings weren’t what Grouchy was looking for, so got an order of loaded tots with cheese, bacon and sour cream and were not messy to nibble on with the burger. 

Native Grill also offers a nice selection of salads, chicken, pizza, sliders, burgers, wings and desserts to choose from to keep everyone happy. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. Grouchy has so many places to revisit but this place will be at the top of the list.
