City finishes year with fourth highest December in Permit Valuation

RAPID CITY –– Rapid City ended 2016 on a strong note, issuing 225 building permits in December with a total valuation of $18,089,318.23. It was the fourth highest December for permit valuation.

For 2016, the City issued 3,242 permits with a record valuation of $320,054,359. The previous high was set in 2011 with total permit valuation of $258,990,182.

Last year, a total of 49 permits were issued by the City with a valuation more than $1 million. The total of the 49 permits was $207,339,757.

“We finished the year on a solid note,” said Dale Tech, interim director for Community Planning and Development Services. “We had a nice group of large projects this year, from new projects to expansions and that is good for the community overall.”

December’s $18 million permit valuation among 225 permits was much higher than December 2015 when the City issued 224 permits with a total valuation of $7.9 million. Leading the way last month were three permits with a valuation of more than $1 million: KEVN-TV’s permit for the KEVN/KOTA addition at 2001 Skyline Drive ($5,008,000); Rapid City Regional Hospital’s Central Utility Plant Expansion at 2911 Third Street ($3,750,000) and Carpenter Properties LLC for the Carpenter Dental addition at 5610 Bendt Drive ($1,145,000).
