COVID-19 update



RAPID CITY – South Dakota continues to be one of the fastest spreading states among others Midwest. The entire state continues to report over 1,000 new cases each day and now has over 50,000 total confirmed cases.

There are over 500 people currently hospitalized from the virus in South Dakota and there are almost 540 deaths in the state from the virus.

Pennington County nears 6,000 total positive cases while Minnehaha County still leads the state with over 14,000.

Oglala Lakota County continues to climb the list for most-impacted counties and it nears over 1,300.

13% of impacted demographics in South Dakota are Native American, the second most impacted demographic in the state.

The South Dakota Department of Health announced mass testing for communities that will take place over the next two weeks. Those communities are Aberdeen, Chamberlain, Custer, Madison, Martin, Mobridge, Pierre, Spearfish, Watertown, and Yankton. Testing will come free of charge. Testing times and dates are listed at covid.sd.gov/testing.aspx. Pre-scheduling is required for the events and can be done at www.DoINeedaCOVID19test.com.
