RAPID CITY – The Rapid City Arts Council announced that current curator, Denise Du Broy is to be promoted to Museum Director and Curator of the Dahl Arts Center effective immediately. She has served as curator for the Rapid City Arts Council for the past 6 and a half years and is a vital part of the organization.
After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Crafts & Their History from the University of California at Santa Cruz, Denise traveled in Europe, North Africa and England for six months before pursuing post-graduate work in ceramics at San Francisco Art Institute. After receiving a job offer to teach art at Crossroads High School in Santa Monica, Denise moved to Southern California where she studied painting and taught art for twelve years while working as a professional artist before moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts with her family.
After spending a year in MA, pursuing her professional art career, she and her husband moved their family to South Dakota in 1993, where they bought a ranch and raised buffalo until 2008. Before becoming curator for the Rapid City Arts Council, Denise worked full time as a professional artist and volunteered at the Dahl Arts Center, first as a Rapid City Arts Council board member, then as an exhibits committee member. After leaving the exhibits committee, Denise joined the collections committee and later became co-chair of the Visual Arts Advisory Board. During the Dahl’s 2009 expansion and renovation, Denise worked on various committees.
