Donald (Don) Bleyle Sr.


MOBRIDGE – Donald (Don) Bleyle Sr., 68, made his journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the ST. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.

Donald (Don) W. Bleyle Sr. was born in Aberdeen on May 2, 1950 to John and Lillian (Todd) Bleyle.

He attended school at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic School in Momence, Ill.  Don had 17 brothers and sisters. Don met the love of his life, Rosalie (Rose) Dolney in Aberdeen, and they were married on July 1, 1968.  Shortly after they were married, Don was deployed and shipped out to Vietnam where he was stationed at Pleiku, Vietnam. He served his country in combat as a war veteran for 10 months between July 1968 and May 1969 as an E-4 combat engineer in the Army Company A, 5th Combat Engineering Battalion. After being shot and injured in combat, he recovered in Germany, and was then flown back stateside where he received his honorable discharge as well as the veteran Purple Heart medal. He also received various medals, badges, and commendations including Expert Marksman in Rifle.

Upon his return home from Vietnam, Don and Rosalie lived in Illinois where they had their two children, Kari in June 1970, and Donald Jr. in September 1971.

In 1979, Don joined the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 54 in Texas, and he and Rosalie moved their family to Texas where they lived and worked in various coastal towns along the Gulf.

In 1986, Don and Rosalie moved the family to Mobridge where they lived and continued to raise their family. For the next several years, Don worked various jobs in Mobridge at Lil’ Feller’s, Mobridge Care Center, and Pizza Hut. In 1996, Don began working as a Production Manager for Fabra Tech, where he continued to work until 2010. Don was a man of many “hats” over his years of life and work, and he always enjoyed interacting and talking with people.

Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and blackjack, and bowling, bowling, bowling. He even bowled a couple of 300 games in his lifetime. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting for pheasant and grouse with his brothers, son, and nephews. He loved listening and dancing to music, and his favorites were the 50’s and 60’s music, Patsy Cline, and Brenda Lee. Don loved to spend time with his family and friends sitting around the table together.

Don’s greatest love and joy was being a husband, dad, grandpa, and papa to his wife, kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and “Katie-Bug”. He especially enjoyed his special time each day with Dan, Sierra-Rose, and Willie Jr. Don had a wonderful big and caring heart, and he brought such joy and love into the world, and he was very loved and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Don is survived by his daughter Kari Wright, son Donald (Melissa) Bleyle Jr., “adopted” son, Michael (Mike) House, grandchildren William (Ana) Wright Sr., Clinton Wright (and Christina Howell), great-grandchildren Sierra Rose Wright and William Wright Jr., extended family Katie Gilbert, brothers and sisters Betty (Ernie) Schmidt, Rose (Frank) Cooper, Irene (Keith) Goehring, Dan (Vivian) Bleyle, Tom (Maggie) Bleyle, Nick (Sandy) Bleyle, Mary Jane (Tony) Stango, Joni (Robert) Dolney, Sandy (Jerry) Mulvey, Jerry (Lucy) Bleyle, Norman (Melinda) Bleyle, various cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie, father and mother John and Lillian, his brothers and sisters John Jr. (Pat) Bleyle, Jim (Helen) Bleyle, Patricia (J.R.) O’Cull, Marilyn (Larry) Campbell, Andy (Paula) Bleyle, Jake (Carmen) Bleyle, grandparents, uncles, and aunts.
