Emily Loman Tibbitts




 

 

TALLASSEE, Fla. — Emily Lorrain Tibbitts, 76, journeyed to the Spirit World on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Big Ben Hospice in Tallassee, Fla.

Emily was born on March 20, 1941 and grew up on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. As a child she enjoyed living on the ranch and was adept as many of the chores associated with ranch life. She attended school at Our Lady of Lourdes, Holy Rosary Mission and Oglala Community School.

She married George Guthrie on August 29, 1957 and to that union four children were born.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George Guthrie, her parents Emil and Wilma Tibbitts, a brother, Melvin Tibbitts and sisters, Janis Emery-White Eyes and Theresa Elinor Tibbitts, who died in infancy.

She is survived by her children, Glenn, Allan, Marcia, Lisa, and one grandson Allan Michael, all of Tallahassee, Fla. Her surviving siblings are John, Jo Ann, Norma, Tony and Marty Tibbitts, all residing on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

She enjoyed many crafts including embroidery and crewel work, taking great pride in the neatness of her work. She created many keepsakes for her family members and friends.

Always an avid card player, she played canasta, rummy and other card games at the Tallahassee senior center and when she returned home for visits she always insisted on playing cards with her siblings.

A memorial service for Emily will be held at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Manderson. She will be interned at the St. Peter’s cemetery near her parents, other family members and relatives.
