FT. PIERRE –– Evelyn Bernice Pretty Bear, 85, made her journey to the Spirit World on Friday, September 2, 2016 at her home in Ft. Pierre.

Evelyn Bernice Pretty Bear – Augustine was born April 18, 1931 at Old Agency on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation to James and Lu Lu (Le Beau) Pretty Bear where she grew up and attended school. “MOM” later moved to Pierre where she met and married Alton E. Augustine. To this union 10 children were born: Deborah, Michael, Morris, Ramona, Alton Anthony (Tony), Scott, Carla, Jack Thomas, Stephanie and Jason.

In passing, “Our Mom” joins her parents, James and Lu Lu (Le Beau) Pretty Bear; father-in-law Alexander Paul Augustine (Alex Alex); mother-in-law Melda Johnson-Augustine; step-grandfather Chris Colombe; her husband Alton E. Augustine; three sons: Jack Thomas (infant), Scott David and Alton Anthony (Tony); daughter Ramona Rae; and siblings: Margaret, Maynard, and an infant sister and brother.

“Our Mom” worked various jobs through the years, including housekeeping and laundry work at Buh’ls laundry, retiring from there in the spring of 2004. “Our Mom” was known for her “great expertise” working with the presses, pressing slacks and shirts. “Our Mom” was a very dedicated hard worker.

Among all of this “Our Mom” cared for her family 100%, and put it all before herself. “Our Moms” children and grandchildren were her priority. “Our Mom” was a very beautiful person – so friendly. She had a smile for everyone and was so kind and giving. Her “Heart” was always in the right place even when her “most unfortunate” medical complications were tough and so unbearable; never giving up. She was, and continues to be, an inspiration to all of us. “Our Mom” will always be remembered and in our hearts, never forgotten.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Deborah, Carla & Stephanie; sons, Michael, Morris & Jason; sister, Elnora Runs After; brother-in-law, Bud Colombe; sister-in-law, Alfreda Emery; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews; and cousins, Sullivan Le Beau family and other cousins in the Eagle Butte area (Ramona Benoist).
