PINE RIDGE –– Gansler Joseph Janis, 75, made his journey to the Spirit World on August 7, 2016 in Sturgis. Gansler was born on October 15, 1940 in Pine Ridge to Henry and Zona (Hawk Wing) Janis.
Gansler is survived by his brother, Richard (Arlene) Janis of Rapid City; sisters, Zona (Art) Tomsha of Auburn, Wash., and Ramona Long of White River; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gansler was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Zona (Hawk Wing) Janis; brothers, Godfrey, Carl, Harvey, Garfield, Greely, Henry, and Nicholas Janis; and sister, Vienna Bad Milk.
A one night wake service was Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge. Funeral services were Friday, August 12, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, with Fr. Edmund Yainao, S.J. officiating. Traditional Lakota services were held with Mr. Rick Two Dogs. Burial services were on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.
