Gordon L. Elk



FORT YATES, N.D. – Gordon L. Elk, 70, made his journey to the Spirit World on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Fort Yates Hospital in Fort Yates, N.D.

Gordon L. Elk was born in Cannonball, N.D. to Justus Elk and Melda (Mentz) Elk on July 31, 1948. He went to grade school in Cannonball, he graduated from High School in Fort Yates, N.D. Met Patricia (Standing Bear) Elk and married her in 1969 at Fort Yates. Enlisted into the Marine Corp in 1969 was stationed at El Toro Air Force base in Camp Pendelton, California. His wife joined him there the same year. He was granted honorable discharge in 1971. Went to Upward Bound for Veterans, was hired as Lineman cable splicer with Qwest Communications retired after 30 years and worked for Standing Rock Elementary as Custodian.

Survived by his wife of 48 years Patricia Elk, daughters Renita Elk, Melynda Elk (Mitch Silk), granddaughters Shaylene Elk (Michael Kidder), Keauna Iron Road, Tyra Iron Road, grandson Jared Elk, Andrew Iron Road, Tyrelle Elk, two special great grandsons Dominic (Little Buddy) Kidder, Dana Kidder, brothers Herman Elk (Geraldine Silk), Wilson Elk, Evans and Ione Elk, sister Jackie Elk, many nephews, nieces to numerous to mention.

Preceded in death by his son Dana Merle Elk, parents Justus and Melda Elk, brother Curtis Elk, sister Loretta.

Funeral services for Gordon, were held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Red Gym in Cannonball, N.D., with Marlon and Rita Hunte, Rev Evans and Ione Elk, Mike Kills Pretty Enemy officiating. Burial was at the Big Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.
