Jeffrey Lynn Janis, Sr.


 

 

MARTIN – Jeffrey Lynn Janis, Sr., 56, made his journey to the Spirit World on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Bennett County Hospital and Nursing Home in Martin.

Jeffrey Lynn Janis, Sr. was born on March 29, 1962 in Rapid City to James H. Janis and Merrietta Joan (Thompson) Janis.

Jeff is survived by his children, Michelle Janis of Georgetown, Tiffany Janis of Kyle, Jeffrey Janis, Jr. of Georgetown,

Stephanie Janis of No Flesh Community, near Kyle and Justin Janis of Georgetown; siblings, James Janis of Rapid City, Esther (Mark) Erickson of New England, N.D., Arthur Janis of Pocatello, Idaho, Keith (Jennifer) Janis of Kyle, Darwin Janis, Stanley Janis, Lamont Janis, Cora (Mike) Chapman, and Maxine Flores, all of Rapid City and Arlene Broken Rope of Mission; grandchildren, Ptanyetu Hehaka Zephier, Marshawn C. Wohpe, Terry and Matthew High Bull, Kyan and Shawntay Fast Horse, Payton and Gage Garrett, Sky Janis, River Byington, Calvin Red Owl IV, Lucius Red Owl and James W. Janis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, James “Wazi Huska” Janis and Merrietta “Anpa’o” (Thompson) Janis; sister, Esther Janis; brothers, Christopher Janis, Joseph Janis; hunka brothers, Harold “Poncho” Goggleye, George “Bubba” Mackey, Webster Poor Bear and Elton White; grandson, Micah Fast Horse; and grandparents, Ed and Ellen (Rouse) Janis, Cora (Traversie) Thompson, and Merle “Chunky” Thompson.

A two night wake service started on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee. Traditional Lakota services were held with Mr. Keith Janis. Burial was at St. Stephen’s Catholic Cemetery in Kyle.
