Layton Trevaughn Ashley




WANBLEE –– Layton Trevaughn Ashley, 21, made his journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in Wanblee.

Layton Trevaughn Ashley was born on June 23, 1995 in Pine Ridge to Harlan Red Elk and Leslie Ashley.

Layton is survived by his mother, Leslie Ashley of Wanblee; sisters, Tatiana Ashley and Tia Ashley, both of Wanblee; brothers, Lonte’ Ashley, Emilio Red Elk and Lorenzo Red Elk, all of Wanblee; maternal grandmother, Frances Ashley of Wanblee; uncles, Melferd Ashley, Jr., Shaun Ashley, Ernest Red Elk, Calvin Red Elk, Sr. and Howard (Mary) Red Elk, all of Wanblee; aunts, Ella Sitting Up, Stephana Standing Bear, Charity Ashley, Shauncina Ashley, Claudette Long Soldier and Rosalie (Ron) Little Thunder, all of Wanblee.

Layton was preceded in death by his father, Harlan Red Elk; uncles, Roger Red Elk, Sr. and Richard Ashley, Sr.; maternal grandfather, Melferd Ashley, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Stephen and Vivian Red Elk; aunts, Lydia White Feather and Marlene Tools; nephew, Leonard Sitting Up; and cousins, Daniel Loafer and Kane Sitting Up.

A two night wake service started on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee with Deacon Gerald Bush officiating. Traditional Lakota services were with Mr. Richard Moves Camp and Mr. Calvin Red Elk. Burial service was held at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee.
