Lucille Mary Black Feather “Maȟpíya Ská Wiŋ”

PINE RIDGE – Lucille Mary Black Feather “Maȟpíya Ská Wiŋ”, 72, began her journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Lucille Mary Black Feather was born at home in Oglala on March 5, 1948 to Eugene Black Feather and Ora Pumpkin Seed (She Elk Voice Walking). Her Lakota name is Maȟpíya Ská Wiŋ or White Cloud Woman. She is the 4th eldest of 12 siblings.

Lucille lived an adventurous life. At around the age of 18 she moved to California, where she lived for a few years before coming home. She had an infectious laugh, spoke Lakota fluently and enjoyed getting in her car and visiting friends and relatives. As she faced health issues later in life, she would laugh and say it was because, “she had too much fun.”

Lucille is survived by her children, Harbor Wayne “Lolly” Swift Bird Jr., Tracy N. Swift Bird, and Jamie A. Ghost;  sister, Jeri Black Father; brothers, Bluch Black Feather and Merle Black Feather; grandchildren, Sasheen Swift Bird, Farron Swift Bird, William “Willi” Troy White II, Tia White Face, Latonna White Face, Cole James Swift Bird, Hayden Doyle Swift Bird, Derrick Ghost, Tristin Ghost, Liam Ghost and Leander Ghost; and great grandchildren, Louise “Santana” Swift Bird, Misu Swift Bird, and Arya Swift Bird.

Lucille was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Black Feather; mother, Ora Pumpkin Seed (She Elk Voice Walking); sisters, Marlene Black Feather, Theresa Black Feather and Shirley Black Feather; brothers, Leonard Black Feather, Wayne Pumpkin Seed, Buster Pumpkin Seed, and William Pumpkin Seed; and granddaughter Tierra Swift Bird.

Pallbearers were Merle Black Feather, Kenneth “Kenny” Standing Soldier, Corey Black Feather, June Black Feather, David Chavez, Cole James Swift Bird, Hayden Swift Bird and Derek Ghost.

Visitation services were held on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at the Black Feather Residence in Wolf Creek Community, near Pine Ridge. Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Body of Christ Cemetery in Wolf Creek Community, with Mr. Bluch Fire Thunder for Traditional Lakota Services.
