Mahpiya Aka Mani Bernard Broken Nose was born on July 13, 2017 in Pine Ridge to Angel C.
Mahpiya is survived by his mother, Angel Broken Nose of Pine Ridge; sisters, Cordelia and Clover Jumping Eagle, both of Pine Ridge; grandparents, Wade and Maxine Broken Nose, both of Pine Ridge; grandparents, Sonny Richards of Rapid City and Yvonne “Tiny” and Lee DeCory of Pine Ridge, Arvella Pomani of Box Elder, SD; uncles, Paris Broken Nose, Honovi Runs Above-Smith, Anthony, Max, Maurice and Marcus Broken Nose, all of Pine Ridge; Simon Washee of Pryor, Oklahoma, John Poor Thunder of Red Shirt, and Darion White Eagle of Rapid City; aunts, Julie Spotted Bear of California, Nora White Eagle of Rapid City, Jenny Spotted Bear, Melanie and Evie Ghost Dog, and Rosemond and Annie Broken Nose, all of Pine Ridge; cousins, Carlos, Darius, and Sophia Benally, all of Box Elder.
Mahpiya was preceded in death by his uncles, Aaron Wade and Hoksila Broken Nose; grandparents,
Bernard and Theresa Broken Nose, Charles White Elk and Maureen Last Horse, and Wilmer and Lisa Mesteth.
A Graveside Service started on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Wolf Creek Community Cemetery, near Pine Ridge. Traditional Lakota services were with Mr. Richard Broken Nose. Burial services were at the Wolf Creek Community Cemetery in Pine Ridge.
