Margaret P. ‘Punky’ Goodface




 

 

LOWER BRULE –– Funeral services for Margaret P. “Punky” Goodface, 64, of Lower Brule, were held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule. Wake services were Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule.

Margaret Phyllis “Punky” Poitra was born October 30, 1952 to Philip Sr. and Alice (Azure) Poitra in Williston, N.D. Punky attended schooling in Belcourt, N.D. until she was accepted to Stephan Indian Mission Boarding School where she met R. Everett Goodface. They were united in marriage in October of 1972. To this union five boys were born. She made Lower Brule her home most of her life.

Punky started subbing for Lower Brule Headstart in 1982 working her way to a full time teaching position until her health caused her retirement in 2014. She also worked as a Black Jack/Poker Dealer at the Golden Buffalo Casino when it had its Grand Opening on February 29, 1992.

Punky loved her job as a teacher. She enjoyed children. She loved to play Bingo, read books, watch game shows, joke around, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Punky took her journey to the Spirit World on Monday, December 19, 2016, at home in Lower Brule at the age of 64 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her sons Everett Goodface Jr. of Lower Brule, Craig (Cosette) Goodface of Taholah, Wash., Jason Goodface of Lower Brule, and Austin (Cyn) Goodface of Taholah, Wash.; brother Richard Poitra and his children Delayne, and Danielle of Richfield, Minn.; sisters Sharon (Bernard) Ree and children Jackie and David of Anchorage, AK, Linda (Fred) Delong and children Philip, Leo, and Kristy of Belcourt, Kim Poitra and children Chad, Kresta, and Jenna of Timber Lake, Ellen (Dan) Peterson and children Jessica and Josh of Champlin, Minn., Bonita (Tony) Poitra and children Jeremy and Samantha of Grand Portage, Minn., Betty’s children Lori, Kris, Keri, Sherry, Ricki, and Philip’s children Kristy, Michael, Nathan, and Ashley; 5 grandchildren Keenan, Kasey, Nina, Natasha, and Krista; and 2 great grandchildren Charles and Tre’ Owen.

Preceding her in death were her parents Philip and Alice Poitra; step father Raymond Poitra; son Joseph Goodface; grandchildren Krista and Norah; brothers Philip, Pete, Raymond, and George Poitra; a sister Betty Jo Lawrence; and nephews Jason Delong and Philip Poitra.

Hickey Funeral Home of Chamberlain was in charge of arrangements.
