Oglala Lakota college Celebrates 49th graduation ceremony
KYLE–Oglala Lakota College (OLC) announces its 49th Annual Graduation Ceremony with 157 graduates receiving Masters, Bachelors, Associate Degrees and Certificates. This year the graduation ceremony will be held at three sites: June 10, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. the Cheyenne River College Center graduation ceremony will take place at the Eagle Butte City Park; June 11, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. the He Sapa College Center/Rapid City graduation ceremony at the Journey Museum Grounds; June 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. the graduation ceremony for the nine remaining College Centers will take place at the Piya Wiconi Administrative Campus southwest of Kyle, SD.
OLC is a four-year tribal college with nine college centers on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, one on the Cheyenne River Reservation, and an extension center in Rapid City in the Black Hills, serving over 1400 students a semester.
OLC President Thomas Shortbull will be addressing the Class of 2022 as keynote speaker at each graduation ceremony. President Shortbull stated, “This year’s graduation will take on special significance to me personally, since I will be retiring as President of Oglala Lakota College in July after 31 years.” “It is a great honor for me to award the diplomas and certificates to the graduates who persevered and overcame so many obstacles to reach their goal of a college degree,” added President Shortbull.
Distinguished speakers who will offer a welcome statement to the graduating class include Kevin Killer, OST President, Harold Frazier, CRST President, and Dennis Brewer, President, OLC Board of Trustees. A traditional powwow will follow the graduation ceremony.
