Peter Samuel Iron Rope “Sihala”

 

 

BATON ROUGE, LA. – Peter Samuel Iron Rope “Sihala”, 49, made his journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his home in Baton Rouge, La.

Peter Samuel Iron Rope “Sihala” was born on April 15, 1969 in Alliance, Neb. to Abel Thomas Iron Rope, Sr. and Vera High Hawk.

Peter was a father to two sons, Sage and Gabriel and one daughter, Mackenzie. Shortly after obtaining his GED, Peter enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged on August 10, 1995 in Fort Benning, Ga.

Peter was known by many for his loving and generous nature, he was a sundancer, and a pipe keeper. Throughout his life, he touched many peoples’ lives; either through work, school, church, and our traditional ceremonial ways. We will always remember his smile, his hugs, and most of all the love he has for each and every one of us.

Peter is survived by wife, Abigail Iron Rope of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Mackenzie Iron Rope and her mother, Colleen Iron Rope both of Kearney, Neb,; brothers, Sandor Iron Rope of Rapid City and Charles Iron Rope of Porcupine; sisters, Carol Iron Rope-Herrera of Martin, Crystal Shields of Oakland, Neb., and Darlene Iron Rope of Sioux City, Iowa; uncles, Eugene Iron Rope of Ogallala, Neb., Eddie Iron Rope of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Wayne High Hawk of Porcupine; aunts, Elizabeth Iron Rope- Patton of Rapid City and Norene Lone Elk of Porcupine.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Abel Iron Rope, Sr. and Vera High Hawk; sons, Sage and Gabriel Iron Rope; grandparents, Peter Iron Rope, Sr., Susie (Poor Bear) Iron Rope, Samuel High Hawk, and Jesse (Old Shield) High Hawk; brothers, Edwin Iron Rope and Abel Iron Rope, Jr. and sister, Rita Iron Rope Sna Mani.

Visitation was held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City. Native American Church Ceremonies took place on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Elk Creek Lodge in Piedmont, with Mr. and Mrs. Calvert Williams and MR. Kick Fool Bull providing services. Burial was held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. Traditional Lakota services were with MR. Steve DuBray, Sr.

Arrangements entrusted with Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge.
