Phoebe Angelique Red Elk



MANDERSON — Phoebe Angelique Red Elk, 84, made her journey to the Spirit World on June 1, 2016 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Phoebe Angelique Red Elk was born on January 30, 1932 at the Old Cheyenne Agency near Eagle Butte to John and Julia (Drops Two) Iron Hawk. Phoebe is survived by her sons, Peter Red Elk, Richard Red Elk, Emil Red Elk, Sr., and Angelo Red Elk all of Manderson and Joseph Garreaux of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Emma Red Elk and Patsy Red Elk both of Manderson, Matilda Red Elk of Rapid City, and Genevieve Ribitsch of #4 Community, Oglala; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Phoebe was preceded in death by her spouse, Patrick Red Elk, Sr.; parents, John and Julia Iron Hawk; children, Donald Red Blanket, Lillian Yellow Horse, Wilbur Red Elk, and Patrick Red Elk, Jr.; siblings, James Marrowbone, Bernice Sits Poor- Chase In Sight, Franklin Sits Poor, Jr., Neville Sits Poor, and Matilda Sits Poor; grandchildren, Elton Red Elk, Nicolette Red Elk, Emil Red Elk, Jr., and Francis Red Elk; and two grandchildren in infancy.

A one night wake service will be held June 10 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall in Manderson. Funeral services will be held June 11 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church Hall in Manderson with Father Chris Johnson, S.J. & Ms. Joyce Tibbitts officiating. Burial services will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church Cemetery in Manderson.
