Men’s and Women’s teams competed at the Track on the campus of the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City Tuesday, with a few good showings from across the region. Teams coming from Wyoming, to the Reservations competed in a full slate of events.

On the men’s side, in the 100 meter dash, the top athlete from the reservation would be Lakota Tech’s Jamiah Bianas, followed up by Zander Big Crow, from Pine Ridge. Daniel Davis, also of Pine Ridge would place in the preliminaries, as did Bruce Whalen, Lakota Tech, Cetan Black Horn, Lakota Tech, Robert Patton from Red Cloud, and Dante Apple, from Pine Ridge.

Into the 200 Meters, competing would see Lakota Tech’s Woksape Locke, would finish 39th overall. Given this meet featured 35 total teams, the numbers are impressive. His teammate, Jordan Whirlwind Horse would come in at 52nd, and Red Cloud’s Caden Pourier would finish in 59th overall. Lakota Tech’s Cetan Black Horn (60) and Bruce Whalen (62nd) would be followed by Zakk Bissonette from Pine Ridge (72) and Dante Apple from Pine Ridge would round out the preliminaries at 77th.

 

Into the 400 meters, David Tuttle would lead the runners, from Lakota Tech, placing in 27th, Whirlwind Horse would appear again, coming in 32nd, wrapping up a shorter field from the teams that competed.

The 800 Meter event, would see Tuttle place again, this time in 31st, while in the 1600 would see Kolt Fox place in 42nd out of Lakota Tech.

The next squads that would take place, would make appearances in the 4×100 relays, where Pine Ridge and Lakota Tech both would show teams. The Thorpe’s’ A team, made up of Kai Pond, Julian Weston, Daniel Davis and Zander Big Crow, would finish 23rd overall, while Lakota Tech’s A squad, made up of Bruce Whalen, Kolt Fox, Jerrick Thompson, and Cetan Black Horn would finish in 25th. Pine Ridge’s B team, consisting of Dante Apple, Jesse Hagen, Haiden Big Crow and Zakk Bissonette, would come in 26th, placing all three squads within 6 seconds of each other.

In the 4×200, Pine Ridge would finish in 17th, With Pond and Weston, being backed up by Semni Big Crow and Zander Big Crow.

In the Long Jump category, Red Cloud’s Caden Pourier would tie with Julian Weston from Pine Ridge, with a distance of 16-05.00, while Pond, from Pine Ridge and Semni Big Crow would finish in 61 and 64th. Bissonette would finish off the men’s event with a 71st place for Pine Ridge.

On the Women’s side, in the 100m, Matayah Yellow Mule from Rapid City Central, just missed a first place finish, by 0.02….that is not a typo. Jayden Friedly from Thunder Basin, out of Wyoming was just a hair faster, but that was about it for the Track O Rama. In the preliminaries, Yellow Mule actually had the faster time, too. On the field, Aurora Marshall and Hannah Risse from Lakota Tech would finish with near identical times, in 53rd and 54th place, with Rubi Good Buffalo from Red Cloud coming in 61st. Vilique Fallis from Lakota Tech finished in 74th, Sierra Black Bull would come in 76th, and Shelly Walking Eagle would finish in 84th, Daisy Running Bear of Lakota Tech at 86th, would cap all the runners competing in the 100 meters.

In the 200 meters, Pine Ridge’s Lolo Carlow would place 16th overall, Victoria Good Buffalo of Red Cloud would finish in 46th, and Risse and Marshall of Lakota Tech would both finish in 52nd and 53rd, respectively. Fallis would finish in 67th, Rubi Good Buffalo would come in 78th, Black Bull in 79th, and Lakota Tech’s Brazee Headly would place in 83rd. Patty Carlow would finish in 85 for Pine Ridge, to complete the class.

In the 400 Meter, Lakota Tech’s Taylor Byerley would finish the finals in 7th place, while April Knight of Red Cloud would come in at 25th overall. Shania Ferguson from Lakota Tech would finish 37th, with Black Bull from Pine Ridge would come in 45th, Monica Giago from Red Cloud in at 46th, and Headly would place 55th overall.

In the 800m Red Cloud would see Cheree Ferguson finish in 7th place, while Rarity Cournoyer would finish in 10th place. Lakota Tech would see Seaney Hawk and Nora Marshall finish in 40 and 41st overall.

For the 1600 meter run, Ferguson would clock in a 14th place, while in the 3200 meter, Ashlan Blount would place 3rd overall. Blount would also have another “Sader backing her up, with Cournoyer, would finish in 9th place.

Ashlan Blount would also show the ability to fly, in the 300 hurdles, as she’d finish in 6th place overall. Jordan Waln, from Lakota Tech would place 30th overall, finishing off the hurdles events on the girl’s side.

Into the relays, starting with the 4×100, Lakota Tech’s team A, comprised of Fallis, Marshall, Daisy Running Bear and Risse would finish 22nd overall, while in the 4×200, the Lakota Tech team would switch things up a little, with Running Bear, Headley, Marshall and Grace Romero would place 19th.

Into the Field Events, in the shot put, Tawny Rodriquez would toss for 23rd place, with Waln finishing in 35th, both from Lakota Tech. Blount, taking part in the Long Jump would finish 11th overall, with a distance of 15-06.50, while Anpo Giago from Pine Ridge would place 42nd. Shelly Walking Eagle from Pine Ridge and Seanna Good Buffalo, from Lakota Tech would finish tied for 54th, while Jasmein Carlow of Pine Ridge and Nora Marshall from Lakota Tech would come in 59th and 60th, overall.

And in a proper finish, Matayah Yellow Mule from Central, would finish in first, in the Triple jump, over 2 feet further than second place.
