Smokey (Richard Claymore) Lessert




 

 

BLACK HAWK – Smokey (Richard Claymore) Lessert passed away in a tragic train accident on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. Smokey grew up in Porcupine and graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1999. He then moved to Rapid City to obtain his Associates degree from Western Dakota Tech in 2001.

Smokey met the love of his life, Vada, in 2003. Their family grew by three children, Trinity 13, Cierra 10, and Tyrell (Bubba) 6. They then decided to marry and join hands on July 12, 2014. Smokey loved life and made the most of it every chance he could. He was gentle, kind, funny, a man of many words, and would help anyone who needed it without hesitation.

Smokey is survived by his wife and children, who continue to live in Black Hawk, his parents Jerry and Theresa Lessert who live in Porcupine, his sister Amanda and Patrick Swallow who live in Pinetop, Ariz.. grandparents Joe and Larri Caniglia from Omaha, Neb., a handful of nieces and nephews, several cousins, aunts and uncles, hundreds of great friends, and millions of good memories. Smokey will be greatly missed by many; we love you; we will see you when our work is done.

Visitation was held Jan. 23, at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home in Rapid City. A prayer service was held Jan. 24 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral in Rapid City, with Fr. Ron Seminara, S.J. officiating.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,

Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
