State Basketball Roundup: Red Cloud upsets Lakota Tech

After Red Cloud and Lakota Tech both saw first round exits, they found a familiar opponent awaiting them in Brookings…each other. Both teams have faced each other in the regular season, both squads with familiar ties and in the end, it would be just like playing back home. Sometimes shots would go in, sometimes, they’d be missed.

Red Cloud, starting strong would be spotted to a 19-12 lead, but by halftime, Red Cloud had built a decent lead, in holding Lakota Tech to seven points in a 36-19 lead. Off the halftime stats, Stevi Fallis was at 20 points while Lakota Tech was led by Tobi Carlow’s 6. Raina Ghost Bear added in 4 rebounds while Ghost Bear, from Red Cloud would add in her own 4. In the second half though, the Lady ‘Saders would start walking away with the game. Sharissa Haas, who would have five rebounds, would finish with 12 points and Allison Richards would get 9, to go along with 6 assists in the game. Even Ghost Bear would get to 6 rebounds, as Red Cloud would see their lead swell out to 24, and the teams starts substituting in the younger players. Jewella LeBeau, for Red Cloud would come in and get two rebounds and go 2-2 from the line, Ashlan Blount for Red Cloud. would enter the game, scoring a basket, and Lakota Tech would bring in Hannah Risse, who would have two rebounds, and score her one basket from beyond the Arc. Shania Ferguson, would score one basket for Lakota Tech, pick up an assist, but in the end, the Red Cloud Lady Crusaders will play for the Consolation title, with s 64-44 win.

White River, playing in the losing bracket, would start off flat, and seemed to be just missing today. They’d have 3 points in the first period, 8 in the second, while Aberdeen Roncalli would put up 29 points in the first half. Maleighya Estes, would put up another good amount of points, finishing with 25 and 8 rebounds, would be joined by two teammates with 6, in Kamaria Krogman on two three pointers and Lilly Krogman, on 2-7 three point shooting. Rhea Tucker meanwhile would pick up 7 rebounds. The Lady Tigers would actually outscore the Aberdeen squad by 22 to 9…and lost, 44-59. The team wraps up their class B tournament on Saturday.
