The Buc stops here! Chief’s routed in Super Bowl

The End Zone

Super Bowls bring overwhelming joy to the winners and heart break to the losers. What is also heartbreaking for fans is the eight months of waiting to watch their teams play again. Some teams are realizing they need to adjust the top salaried quarterbacks to make room for additional key players. In Pittsburgh, the Steelers Owner Art Rooney has stated that QB Ben Roethlisburger needs to re-negotiate his contract from the $41.2 million dollars per year he earns. In addition, the New Orleans Saints are set to renegotiate QB Drew Brees contract as well for the 2021 season.

There is an opening at quarterback in New England as Cam Newton has now vacated the position. Patriots are considering QB Marcus Mariota from the Raiders to fill the void.  Also filling a void are the Green Bay Packers who hired Joe Barry as their new defensive coordinator. Out from “Wentz he came” was the theme in Philadelphia as the QB Carson Wentz may be seeking a new team as he looks to be traded.

“It is hard to concentrate on coaching a Super Bowl when your son is injured,” noted the Captain. That is what happened to Chiefs Coach Andy Reid as his son Britt Reid, an assistant coach for the Chiefs, was involved in a multi-car accident and had suffered injuries. Congratulations to Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson who was the winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

Speaking of congratulations, there were five players who were voted into the Hall of Fame. Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson, Broncos QB Peyton Manning, Detroit Lions WR Calvin “Megatron Johnson. Also, to include Steelers Guard Alan Fenaca along with the first Hispanic Coach to win a Super Bowl Raiders/Seahawks Tom Flores. Cowboys All-time great WR Drew Pearson was selected after much lobbying with the Hall of Fame for his appointment.

Tom Brady was named Most Valuable Player for the fifth time in his career along with his seventh ring.

Two former players of the NFL, DE Kenny Henry and RB Najeh Davenport are suing the NFL on discriminatory practices over not being able to settle their claim on the 2013 Concussion Settlement. Due to the league accusations that the testing is explicitly discriminating against black players.

A process called “race norming” that has used by scientist to correct the lower levels of education in black communities. This is used to prevent the over diagnosing of cognitive impairment in their communities. If their scores fall under the “Norm” they are eligible for the claim. However, the norm is higher for black players than for white players. ABC conducted an investigation on the matter. It concluded that the leagues’ protocol superseded their professional judgement. This leads to a drastically different outcome to those players needing help.

Well South Dakota placed itself in Super Bowl history in a small way. A Fly-Over conducted by Ellsworth Air Force Base included their oldest and newest planes. A B-52 Strategic Bomber alongside a Stealth Bomber along with the B1-B Bomber streaked over the stadium in Tampa Bay. This led to an array of funny and interesting Super Bowl commercials. The Weekend performed brilliantly in the Half-Time entertainment.

In the first quarter both teams’ defenses were fired up. Initially, the Chiefs led an 8-play drive with a 49-yard field goal by Kicker Harrison Butker to take a 3-0 lead. After some incompletions, the Buccaneers decided to go their run game with RB Leonard Fournette. Fournette began gashing holes exploiting the middle of the Chiefs defensive line with ten-yard runs for first downs. This forced the Chiefs to back off leaving TE Rob Gronkowski for an 8-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-3 lead.

Buccaneers never looked back at that point as Gronkowski started to heat up with receptions. To include a 17-yard reception for a score on the following drive to take a 14-3 lead. Not to be outdone, Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown got in on the act with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Brady. “Brady rushed down the field and said something to Chiefs CB Tyron Mattheu after the score. In a post-game interview, Mattheu stated he would not repeat what Brady had said to him. An unravelling from the Chiefs began at this point. As they were called for holding on three separate occasions trying to get the defense off the field. “You could see the frustrations on the Chief defenders faces, stated the Captain.

Especially for Mattheu who was called for pass interference on a play where the ball was simply not catchable in which he was flagged leading to a Buccaneers score. Let us not forget the Bucs defense which was fast, accurate and explosive all evening. Chiefs QB Mahomes was “bottled up” between the hash marks making errant interceptions. By Half-time the game was pretty well decided at this point. This included a 27- yard touchdown run by Buccaneers RB Leonard Fournette to “seal the deal” taking a 31-9 lead that led to victory. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes remained contained for the outing with a slightly less than fifty percent completion rate. Tossing for 270 yards and two interceptions. Brady, on the other hand, would become the Super Bowl MVP for the fifth time tossing for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Brady stated that he wanted to come back and win another Super Bowl for a possible eight ring.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers have now become the sixth team to win a Super Bowl by being a Wild Card team.
