The Texas Roadhouse; a true taste of the Lone Star State

Kent Taylor opened the first Texas Roadhouse in Indiana. It’s not just a family restaurant, it’s a place where everyone can have good eats and at great prices. Roadhouse likes to brag about their Hand-Cut Steaks, Fall-Off-The-Bone Ribs, Made-From-Scratch Sides, and Fresh-Baked Bread. They brag, “Everything we do goes into making our hearty meals stand out. We provide larger portions so you get more food for your dollar. And if you want an Ice Cold Beer or Legendary Margarita to wash it all down — well, we have those, too.” This is one of Grouch’s favorite places in Rapid City to take friends and visiting relatives.

The Rapid City Texas Roadhouse is located in the Rushmore Mall and we figured it was going to be busy due to the holiday season, Grouchy and guest went around 3 p.m., between busy times to beat all the holiday shoppers. We skipped lunch, and were we hungry.

Grouchy and guest ordered the Rattlesnake Bites for starters … Diced jalapenos and jack cheese, hand-battered, lightly fried and served with Cajun Horseradish dipping sauce for $5.99. The cheese inside was creamy and hot, the jalapenos were cutup so small you couldn’t even tell they were in, then just a small hint of the jalapenos, wasn’t over powering.

Grouchy ordered the Smothered Chicken with sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms for $11.99 with two sides of a house salad with a sweet Italian dressing which was a surprising taste and a plain sweet potato. The chicken was big enough to feed two smaller portions and was the tenderest and grilled smoky flavored.

Grouch’s guest ordered the 10 oz. Prime Rib for $16.99. She likes hers almost mooing. Her two sides were just like Grouch’s but her sweet potato was loaded with brown sugar and marshmallows.

They offer great appetizers from a Cactus Blossom, Grilled Shrimp to Texas Red Chili at variety of easy prices. They even have great salads with croutons that you could swear they were homemade, grilled chicken salad, steakhouse filet salad and a Caesar salad starting at $3.99 to $10. With all types of steaks, a selection of salmon, shrimp and fried catfish too. Kid’s meals start at $3.99 up to $9.00. Plus burgers and sandwiches are available. Texas Roadhouse offers an Early Dine for $8.99 with 11 entrees. They have a VIP Club. You can even have the Roadhouse with upcoming specials, call a head seating to get in and quickly out the door.

We really enjoyed the peanuts in shell that you can through on the floor (plus we didn’t have to clean up.) The atmosphere was lively. One problem for Grouchy was the lighting made it hard to read the menu but as we all get older, it’s hard for low lighting and music was a bit too loud. Not complaining about the music … it was great country. We got out of Texas Roadhouse for $43.81. Grouchy has been to the Roadhouse several times.
