Avis Little Eagle was born, raised and educated on the Standing Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. She walked into the original Lakota Times one day in the early 1980s and found herself a home there. She worked as a staff writer for several years and when the Lakota Times changed its name to Indian Country Today she found herself as managing editor of the largest Native American owned newspaper in America. Avis now lives in McLaughlin where she runs her own weekly newspaper The Teton Times. We salute this great Lakota journalist and newspaper publisher.
