William Lew Koenen A.K.A. Edward Allen Murdock

 

 

PORCUPINE – William Lew Koenen A.K.A. Edward Allen Murdock “Sasijiwan” (Calm Waters), 69, made his journey to the Spirit World on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.

William “Bill” Lew Koenen was born on April 18, 1949 in Ashland, Wis. to Edward Marshall and Betty Murdock and was adopted by Lew and Martha (Oranger) Koenen when he was 2 years old.

William was a member of the Mole Lake Band of Sokaogon Chippewa Tribe in Crandon, Wis.

William is survived by his wife, Emily (Iron Cloud) Koenen of Porcupine; children, Bradley Koenen of Nashville, Tenn., Angela, Mark, Jeremy and Lew Koenen, all of Porcupine; sisters, Lisa Hendrickson of Duluth, MN, Rebecca Carol and Rachel Myron, both of Olympia, Wash., and Jeanette Mardis Fleming of Hammond, Ind.; brother, Terry Rogers of Hammond, Ind.; cousins, Diane Kerr of Shakopee, Minn. and Debbie Nelson of Austin, Texas; 6 grandchildren; and extended relatives, the Iron Cloud Family.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Marshall and Betty Murdock; adopted parents, Lew and Martha Koenen; and sister, Betty Murdock.

Pallbearers will be: Paul Robertson, Ted Hamilton, Dustin Baird, Pat Little, Sr., Brian Hirsch, “Muggs” Cross, Gerald Iron Cloud and Phillip Good Crow.

A one night wake service started on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the Porcupine School Gym in Porcupine. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Porcupine School Gym. Traditional Lakota services were held with Mr. Ty Lunderman and Mr. Thomas Yellow Cloud. Burial was at the Eddie and Mary Iron Cloud Family Cemetery in Porcupine.
